Old VHS tapes waiting to be lost ;-)

Does your company copy video from VHS or miniDV cassettes to DVDs?

Yes. We specialize in transferring VHS, VHS-C, and miniDV tapes to DVD-Video discs. Typically, the material from the cassette is recorded onto a DVD in a format that allows playback on both computers and standard standalone DVD players. It’s important to note that a single-layer DVD with a capacity of 4.7 GB can hold approximately 1 hour of film material in high-quality (HQ) or 2 hours in standard quality (similar to VHS quality). While it’s possible to fit more material on a DVD, doing so would result in a noticeable decline in recording quality.

Due to the fact that newer computers, laptops, and other contemporary multimedia devices no longer come equipped with optical disc drives, we advise our clients against transferring VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, or miniDV tapes to DVD. That era has passed! Instead, we recommend transferring the content to a USB Pendrive, an external hard drive, or an SD card that can be inserted into a smartphone. Keep in mind that one hour of video material (in the old resolution of 720 x 576 pixels) amounts to approximately 2 GB of data. Additionally, there’s the option to upscale old SD material to modern resolutions and new aspect ratios, such as 16:9 HD or Full HD, using cutting-edge AI-based software.
